Why would you do the PADI Divemaster course?
Many people often ask why so many people do their PADI Divemaster course but do not work as a professional Divemaster. In all honesty people do the course for different reasons. Some people, do it as a way to work and travel, while doing a job that they’re crazy about. There is a surprisingly amount of countries in the world that offer diving, each great for their own special reasons. For many of u, our list of places to go for diving in the world only becomes bigger the more we speak to other divers.
1: To Become an Instructor:
Some people do it as a means to become PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor, so they can go on to teach what they love, to other people. As corny as it sounds, there is nothing quite like the wide eyes of somebody, so surprised to see under the ocean for the first time, realizing what they had been missing all along. Of course it helps that being an instructors, usually but not always, earn more than Divemasters making people want to go that bit further.
2: Greater Diving Skills and Knowledge:
Some people do it simply to advance their diving knowledge and skills. The Divemaster course is the course, without a doubt, where you learn the most about diving. There is a lot of elements of the course to complete, including a lot of theory, which goes much more in depth compared to what you already know. This theory is topped off with everybody’s favorite…; exams. You also get to experience guiding and taking people to discover the local sites. You will also assist the instructors with other courses and dealing with new divers which is invaluable training that you cannot learn, other than through experience.
Not forgetting the stamina tests of course; swimming tests and diver rescue. On top of all of that, you will also learn more search and recovery skills, how to map a dive site, deep dive scenarios, how to plan emergency assistance for a company and of course how to be professional role models for other divers. So as you can image the course is takes time, most dive centres offer this over a 4 to 6 week period, it also costs significantly less than fun diving for 4 to 6 weeks costs.
3: Value for Money:
Which brings me to the final reason… Value for money. Some people literally only do the course to dive, dive, dive. If this is the reason you would choose, it’s important to remember, it is not just a holiday. You are treated like a member of the team at the dive centre and nobody likes a slacker. You also are expected to act professionally around the workplace. However, it’s as good of a reason as any and on the plus side, most dive centres around the world give discounts to Divemasters, so you can enjoy the luxury of cheaper dives worldwide thereafter.
