Diving Nusa Lembongan – Environments and Dive Training
Nusa Lembongan is found in the heart of Indonesia which arguably has the richest biodiversity found in South East Asia. With the open Indian Ocean below and the Bali Sea above, there are thousands of different species of the sea to be discovered. From the big Kings of the Ocean to the tiny critters which require an eagle eye to be found, diving Nusa Lembongan is a hidden gem.
Being open to the elements, the conditions at sea can get moderate, which makes diving Nusa Lembongan a top destination to further your diving education. Water temperatures have stayed slightly lower around Bali and its surrounding islands, and with medium to strong currents of nutrient rich waters. Lembongan is also home to a reasonable size mangrove area.
Mangroves are salt-tolerant trees, also called ‘Halophyte’, and are adapted to life in harsh coastal conditions. These are breeding grounds for thousands of spieces of tropical fish which in turn bring in the big predators such as the barracuda. Due to both these facts, it allows the coral reefs to thrive, which makes this destination perfect for expanding your knowledge of the underwater world. A great one to do this, is by taking specialties such as the PADI Naturalist.
It must be noted to the new comers who wish to start, Twin Island Dive use pools for training and know protected locations around for diving Nusa Lembongan for building the beginners confidence. For entry level dives such as the PADI DSD and Open Water, we have several calm sites with sandy bottoms and very little current. These protected sites are still bustling with marine life and allow new divers to build up ability and experience before moving onto the more adventurous sites.
Having three islands in such close proximity, rich waters flow between the channels during tide changes, creating the perfect environment for drift dives, along the epic coral covered walls and deep sloping reefs.
These current also result in schooling manta rays, which are found all year round. These amazing creatures make for a perfect studio for those award winning photos.

One of the biggest highlights in Lembongan is, that it is one of the places in the world becoming renowned for its Mola Mola sighting. These creatures venture up from the deep to be cleaned. The season starts in July and tails off in December but there are random sightings all year round.
Let us not forget, Bali is only a short distance away and Tulamben, is the home of the Liberty wreck. This ship was beached previous to 1960 but was pushed back into the waters by the volcanic eruption in 1964. Having sat underwater for 50 years, some of the ship has broken down and opened up, but still kept its structural form. With this combination, much natural light, floods though the big swim throughs, producing an inviting and easy environment to take part in a PADI Wreck specialty.
