PADI Divemaster Internship in Lembongan - Amanda in the pool with Kipp

Amanda joined the Twin Island Dive family at the start of November.

Below is Amanda’s story so far:

PADI Divemaster Internship in Lembongan - Amanda happy

Hi, my name is Amanda and I am a Rescue Diver at Twin Island Dive!

Previously I was a collage-graduated, city woman, with a bunch of papers on my desk. I finally realized that my place was not in the city. So, I quit my job and decided to live the island life.

Scuba diving for me has always been a lifestyle and the only hobby that I wished to experience to the maximum. I’ve been diving for five years, starting out with my first experience in 2014 as an SSI Open Water Diver in Jakata at the “Thousand Islands”. Within 6 months I could not resist and returned to the same place to complete my Advanced course. I have always loved the ocean, beach and nature as a whole but breathing underwater is a something else. I consider the ocean my second home and my personal stabilizer. So, I return whenever it’s possible.

As an Indonesian citizen;

Having to find the funds personally to become a diving professional is not an easy undertaking and definitely not the cheapest. This is the main reason why most of the Indonesian Open Water Divers do not continue to further their certification level. For example, when I first completed my Open Water course, there were five of us but after some time, I’m the only one of the group who is still actively diving. With this, I finally realized it’s my biggest passion. I knew I wanted to pursue scuba diving as a career and hopefully one day have my own PADI Dive Center!

So now, in order to make the most of my career choices and make all my dreams come true, I will need to be part of the best team and learn everything from the best.

My first job in the industry was to join a team at an SSI dive center, shadowing dive guides and helping guide divers while learning how a dive center operates. I then moved to a NAUI dive resort to work as a resort manager before moving on to another SSI dive center as the office manager, followed by working as a RAID dive guide in Lembongan (The minimum requirement for being a dive guide in Indonesia is Rescue Diver.).

However, my dream is not to be the ‘minimum’, but to keep learning and furthering myself.

The day Twin Island Dive posted a recruitment advert for PADI Dive Masters on Nusa Lembongan, I started to research it further on Facebook.

After browsing for a while, I decided to contact Twin Island Dive and explain that I wished to become a Divemaster. They quickly wrote back to me, explaining they would like to meet and talk about my goals within my career as a diver.

The very same week I had an appointment to meet the owner of Twin Island Dive; Mr. Kipp Hennen. A very open and warm man with a humble and welcoming personality. We had a discussion about the dive center, and how we could join together for a Divemaster Internship and if I would be interested to join the Twin Island Dive team. He gave me some time to think and we made an appointment to meet again the next day.

That night, I discussed my options with my husband and about the internship with Twin Island Dive and he fully supported whatever my decision would be.

In my opinion, PADI has always been the leader in the diving world and I believe that completing my Divemaster Internship with a Five Star PADI Dive Resort would be the best option for me to develop, create a much higher standard for myself, and to share with the world the knowledge that I will gain.

Along with talking about the Divemaster Internship, we talked about the PADI instructor course also. After the meeting with Kipp, on the first day, I had never been more certain about my decision with his positive vibe and professional dive center.

So, with this in mind, the very next day I returned to Twin Island Dive and signed up for my Divemaster Internship!

PADI Divemaster Internship in Lembongan - Amanda exploring the land

On my first day;

I met Bryce, a very kind and professional instructor who manages the dive center, along with Sarah and the friendly staff from Bali: Krisna, Putu and Kadek, and not forgetting their professional captain that never misses a thing!

They all immediately made me feel welcome and part of the Twin Island Dive family. It’s now been three weeks since I joined them and I’m extremely happy with my choice. I have already improved my scuba diving skills, expanded my knowledge and increased my professionalism.

I’m sure there are many people who would appreciate this great opportunity and for me, I’m sure that this is my way to pursue my happiness and my dream.

Even after these few weeks, spending time together, learning, scuba diving and practicing my skills, I know this is the right PADI dive center for me.

Thanks to Kipp, Bryce, Sarah and the whole team, I look forward to my future with you!

Happy bubbles,

Amanda
